Division special units consist of several smaller specialized units. These units are trained to deal with specific types of criminal activity:

  • Narcotics Unit

Units

Narcotics Unit

The Narcotics Unit is responsible for acquiring and developing information regarding the manufacture, sale, and distribution of narcotics in the city and monitoring gang activity. In addition to gang surveillance and investigation, the unit also provides several community resources and outreach programs designed to prevent gangs and gang violence.

This is a free program affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, this group is for males and females ages 14 through 19 interested in law enforcement or careers in law enforcement. They currently meet every other Wednesday at 6 pm at the Winchester Police Department. Further information can be obtained by contacting Officer Monty Corbett or Officer Steve Charles.

Citizen Police Academy

This is a 12-week academy that meets Wednesdays at 6 pm for citizens interested in learning about their local law enforcement and criminal justice system. This free program includes ride-a-longs with local law enforcement. Information is posted in the Winchester Sunday and on the Winchester Police Department Facebook Page when the academy is accepting applications. 911 For Kids

911 Communication Officers teach 3rd-grade students in Clark County about the 911 System and when to call 911. For further information contact Jeannie Gwynne and/or Chad Burkhart.
